Wales On Tour

On the 3rd – 10th September we successfully sent four women to the European Championships in Poland, although we do not have an experienced team of girls they performed very well considering the experience of their opponents.  Jessie Jones 50kg got a bye to the quarters where she met Turkeys Hasibe Erkoc.  Jessie getting outscored 18-3 in the 2nd round no shame in that because there seemed to be far too many 15 point stoppages the Turk went on to win the gold. Then at 52kg we had lyndsey Holloway she did very well to go the distance  with Diane timofte of Romania losing 18-30 then we had Rebecca price at 60kg who faced Sandra brugger from Switzerland Rebecca getting outscored in the second round 6-21 I felt that she could have gone into the third round no problem without getting hurt ,then finally we had at 63 kilos Kelly Barnes who had a bye into the quarters where she faced  kinga siwa from Poland  but again the outscored rule came into effect with kell looking like she was up for it score 9-24 one judge even had kelly infront at the time there was talk of getting rid of the 15 point rule in the near future .

Then we sent 3 men to Lanzarote from1 -8 oct  for the Spanish boxingtournament, eight countries took part, Wales France Italy Russia Scotland Cyprus Spain Tanzania

First to box was at 54kg lee Lewis he drew a Tanzanian emilian patrick, lee being stopped in the fourth round after taking some fierce body blows ,Andrew selby at 51 kilos faced Spaniard juan padilla winning on points  to go into the semi final, here he faced Russian magomed abdulkhamidov losing  on points  but gets a bronze medal as a losing semi-finalist ,then we had bronze commonwealth games medallist mo nassir who had a bye to the semis where he faced another Russian at 48kg in ilgiz makhmutov mo losing on points  but also receiving a bronze medal, both these tournaments where senior boxers ,sorry i did not put scores for men but i mislead them ,hope you can print this info regards john
