Boxing: Cup final sparks show switch

CARDIFF City’s triumphant march to the FA Cup final has meant a switch of date and venue for Wales’ first pro-am show in the modern era.
Promoter Patrick Connaughton had intended to stage the event – four amateur bouts, followed by four involving pros – at the Welsh Institute of Sport on May 16, the eve of the big day at Wembley.
Now it has been put back to May 24, but because the Sophia Gardens site is not available that night, it will be held at St David’s Hall, the first time the sumptuous arena has been used for boxing since November 1983.
