Article Scotland Top Amateurs Abroad 1

Scotland’s mixed team of juniors, cadets and seniors polished/cleaned up a very impressive medal haul in the Polish town of  Slopsk, which is approximately 100km east of the birthplace of “Solidarity” Gdansk, during the “Euro/Swedish” tournament held in early October under the aegis of the Polish Boxing Federation.  The team, with Tom Brown as manager, and both Tony Kerr and Bert McShane as coaches, scooped no less than 5 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze medals in this tournament, which had no less than 10 nations participating including the host nation.

This extraordinary success can be attributed to the groundwork started by John McKay and his team of coaches during the last 4 years and the obvious benefit from Government funding via Sport Scotland.  The roll of honour is as follows;

Gold
Aston Brown        Noble Art
Sean Finney         Kingdom
Robert Wright      Clydeview
Darren Traynor    Granite City
Callum Johnston  Gilmerton

Silver
Ryan Smith            Noble Art
Stephen Tiffney     Gilmerton
Thomas Mullen      Springside
Edward Finney      Kingdom
Richard Barclay     Noble Art

James McLevy       Clydeview

Bronze
Gary McCallum      O’Neills
