IABA squad for EU Championships
The Irish Amateur Boxing Association have named a ten man squad for the 2008 European Union Senior Championships, which begin in Cetniewo, Poland on Sunday next.
Ireland's five Olympians and reigning senior champions, Ken Egan, Darren Sutherland, John Joe Joyce, John Joe Nevin and Paddy Barnes have been included in the squad.
Jamie Conlon, David Oliver Joyce, Eric Donovan, Willie McLoughlin and Con Sheehan have also been named in a panel which contains seven Irish senior champions in total - Joyce and Sheehan both claimed Irish titles last January.
Egan, who will captain the Irish squad in Poland, Sutherland and Roy Sheahan all won gold medals at the 2007 European Union Championships at the National Stadium in Dublin.
Carl Frampton and Cathal McMonagle claimed silver at the same tournament to ensure that Ireland finished on top of the medals won table.
The 2008 European Union Championships will be the Irish senior squad's final major tournament ahead of August's Olympics Games in Beijing.
