Irish boxers claimed their second victory over a USA Golden Gloves selection following a 5-1 win at the Stand House Hotel in Kildare on Sunday night.

Limerick featherweight Willie Casey got last nights meeting off to a positive start for Ireland, beating Christian Conception by a margin of one point following an all action very closely contested 57Kg bout.

Lightweight Ross Hickey then recorded an impressive 29-4 win over Joseph Arroyo, while middleweight David Joyce scored effectively with both hands to see off the challenge of the stylish Michael O'Connor.

Hugh Joyce and Markus Williams produced the bout of the evening, a toe-to-toe light heavyweight clash that was in the balance until the final bell after which Joyce was handed a 23-19 verdict.

Heavyweight John Sweeney was heading toward a points victory but was caught with a beautiful left hook in the third which ended the contest in David Thompson's favour.

Super heavyweight David Joyce got the hosts back to winning ways however, forcing Adam Kownacki into two standing counts before the contest was bout in the second.
