Join up ... and learn the ropes!
RENFREWSHIRE Amateur Boxing Club will continue to run throughout the summer and they are looking for the next generation of champions to join their ranks.
The club is based at the St Mirren Fitness Centre and boasts Paisley punchers Kevin McIntyre and Kris Carslaw among its members.
Renfrewshire ABC has been running for two years now and in that time have produced four national and four district champions.
They are looking to recruit new members who are keen to take up boxing for the first time and boast expert coaches with top-of-the-range facilities who can show them the ropes.
They train on Monday and Wednesday nights from 5pm-6pm for nine to 15-year-olds and then from 6pm-7.30pm for anyone over 16 and will do so throughout the summer.
The club also has a total non-combat class on Tuesday nights from 5pm-6pm which is open to anyone and is particularly useful for people making their first foray into the sport.
Head coach Colin Bellshaw, pictured above, has urged anyone interested to come along and try the sport for themselves.
He said: “We’ve enjoyed a tremendous amount of success in our first two years by producing four national and four district champions and we expect the youngsters who were with us at the beginning to step up to that level in the next 12 months.
“We’re now looking for the next batch of youngsters to come along and learn the ropes.
“Anyone who feels they might have something to offer is welcome to come along whether they’re an absolute beginner or someone just interested in the non-combat side of the sport as a fitness tool.”
